However, replacing cotton with hemp would be very beneficiary to the environment and consumers would not necessarily have to wear rougher clothes as there are easy ways to soften hemp. Half of the pesticides used in North America are applied to cotton alone. Besides this, growing cotton rapidly depletes the soil, which in turn causes an increased use of fertilizer, something hemp does not often require.
